Troubleshooting

No internet after eSIM installation: get mobile data working

Your eSIM is installed and may show signal, but the internet does not work. Check the data line, roaming, plan, and APN in the correct order.

Can you see the eSIM in your settings and perhaps 4G, LTE, or 5G, but no website opens? Select the eSIM as the mobile data line, enable data roaming on that line, and test without Wi-Fi. Only then check your data allowance and APN.

HolySim advice: change one setting at a time. Test a new web page afterward. This shows which step solved the problem.

First prove that Wi-Fi is not helping unnoticed

Switch off Wi-Fi and open a website you have not visited recently. A cached page can appear without a new connection. If the website works, the eSIM is providing data and the earlier problem is probably related to Wi-Fi or the app you were using.

Also look at the symbol beside the signal bars. 4G, LTE, or 5G means a data network is available, but not that your plan actually permits traffic. Only a successful test without Wi-Fi proves that mobile data works.

Do you see No Service, SOS Only, or no network name at all? Skip the APN for now and follow the guide for no service with an eSIM.

Select the travel eSIM for mobile data

A Dual SIM phone can show two active lines but generally uses one line at a time for mobile data. After installation, the regular SIM sometimes remains selected.

On iPhone:

  1. Open Settings > Cellular.
  2. Tap Cellular Data.
  3. Select the name of your travel eSIM.
  4. Disable Allow Cellular Data Switching while testing.

On Android, open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs. On Samsung, this is usually under Connections > SIM manager. Select the eSIM for mobile data. The exact wording varies by brand.

Apple explains that only one line at a time is selected for cellular data with Dual SIM. Check the line's name, not only the general Cellular Data switch.

Enable data roaming on the correct line

A travel eSIM often uses a partner network at your destination. Data roaming usually needs to be enabled for this, even when the product name does not mention roaming.

Open the travel eSIM details and enable Data Roaming. Keep roaming switched off on your regular SIM if you want to avoid unexpected charges. Also disable automatic switching to that regular SIM.

Apple includes data roaming as a check for connectivity problems abroad. The plan terms remain decisive: enabling roaming does not suddenly make an eSIM for one country work in a neighboring country.

Check whether your plan can already work

Correct phone settings cannot fix the wrong destination or an expired plan. Check the following in your order:

  • the country or region in which the eSIM is valid;
  • when the validity period starts;
  • the end date;
  • remaining data or a daily limit;
  • any instruction to use a specific network partner.

Are you still at home with an eSIM for a distant destination? The profile may be installed without connecting. That is usually normal. Wait to test until you are inside the covered area.

Refresh the network registration

Switch airplane mode on for fifteen seconds and then off. Give the phone a few minutes afterward. Restart it if nothing changes.

This step is particularly useful after a flight, border crossing, or long period without signal. The phone registers again and retrieves current network information. Do not delete the eSIM profile during this process.

Leave network selection on automatic at first. Only select a carrier manually when the installation instructions name the permitted partner. A network with a strong visible signal does not necessarily belong to your plan.

Check the APN when reception remains available

The APN is the network path for mobile data. A missing or incorrect value fits this symptom: the phone shows a network, but data does not pass through.

Compare the APN field character by character with the instructions in your order. Pay attention to periods, hyphens, and capitalization. Enter a username and password only when they are explicitly provided. Leave all other fields unchanged.

Apple warns that an incorrect APN can interrupt the cellular data connection. The APN menu is also not visible on every iPhone; carriers can manage this setting automatically. Read the separate APN guide before making changes.

Test with another app and without a VPN

Does one app fail while Safari or Chrome works? The eSIM is fine. Check that app's cellular data permission. On iPhone, mobile data can be disabled per app; Android can restrict background data or use Data Saver.

Temporarily disable a VPN or security filter. A fault in the VPN tunnel can block all traffic even while the mobile network itself works. Enable the VPN again afterward and check the configuration with the VPN provider.

Also check the date and time. Set both automatically. A substantially incorrect clock can cause secure websites and apps to refuse connections.

Resetting network settings is a last step

A reset can repair corrupted mobile settings but often erases saved Wi-Fi networks, VPN details, and manual APNs. Write down the correct APN first and make sure you have the Wi-Fi passwords.

Only choose the reset for network or mobile settings. A factory reset is unnecessary for this problem. Do not delete the eSIM either; an installation code may be single-use.

When to contact HolySim

Contact support if you have checked the correct country, a valid plan, reception, the correct data line, roaming, and APN but still receive no data. Send the brand, model, software version, location, and screenshots of SIM management and the APN. Also state which network name appears at the top.

Only share the complete QR code or activation code through the official support channel. Do not put it in a public message or screenshot.

Sources and editorial review

The device steps were checked against guidance from Apple and Google. Android menu names vary by manufacturer. The correct APN, network partner, validity, and data limit depend on the plan; the details in your HolySim order take precedence. Last substantively reviewed on July 15, 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I have 4G but no internet?

4G shows that your phone sees a network. Next check the selected data line, data roaming, remaining data, and APN. A network symbol does not guarantee a working data session.

Should Wi-Fi be enabled during installation?

Usually, to download the eSIM profile. After installation, switch Wi-Fi off briefly to test whether mobile data itself works.

Can a VPN block my eSIM?

A faulty VPN connection can block internet traffic while the eSIM remains properly connected. Test briefly without the VPN, then repair its configuration.

May I delete the eSIM and scan it again?

Only do that when HolySim instructs you to. Many QR codes are tied to one installation and do not work again after deletion.

Why does the eSIM not work at home?

A travel eSIM often connects only inside the country or region covered by the plan. Check the coverage area and start time in your order.
