Which Google Pixel phones support eSIM? Models and exceptions

Every Google Pixel from the Pixel 4 onward supports eSIM. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a can also support eSIM, but exceptions apply based on the sales country and original carrier. The first Pixel from 2016 does not support eSIM.

For every phone brand, check the exact model, sales region, and SIM configuration instead of relying only on the series name.

Pixel models with eSIM

The main rule is straightforward for these generations:

• Pixel 10 series;
• Pixel 9 series and Pixel 9a;
• Pixel 8 series and Pixel 8a;
• Pixel 7 series and Pixel 7a;
• Pixel 6 series and Pixel 6a;
• Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a;
• Pixel 4 series and Pixel 4a.

Google states that all Pixel 4 models and newer work with eSIM. Carrier support and a carrier lock can still determine whether a specific profile is accepted.

Exceptions for Pixel 2, 3, and 3a

With older Pixel phones, you need to know where the device was purchased:

• Pixel 3a: versions purchased from Verizon or sold in Japan do not support eSIM.
• Pixel 3: many carrier versions from the United States and Canada do not support eSIM. Devices from Australia, Taiwan, and Japan are also exceptions.
• Pixel 2: only the version sold for Google Fi supports eSIM.
• Pixel from 2016: does not support eSIM.

Two Pixel 3 phones with the same exterior can therefore differ in eSIM support. Check the device menu and do not rely only on the name in a secondhand listing.

Check a Pixel yourself

Open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs. Tap Add SIM. If you see Set up an eSIM or Download a SIM instead?, the feature is available on your version.

Also check the EID:

1. Open Settings > About phone.
2. Look for SIM status, IMEI, or EID.
3. Note the model if you ask Google or the original carrier for confirmation.

Android may change menu names slightly after an update. Search Settings for eSIM or SIM if you cannot find the listed path.

US Pixel 10 models without a physical SIM

Google states that the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL in the United States do not use a physical SIM. Those versions only work with eSIM. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is an exception.

That is fine for travel as long as both your regular plan and travel profile can be managed as eSIMs. You cannot insert a local nano-SIM as a backup. Install and test your profiles before departure when the plan terms allow it.

Dual SIM on Google Pixel

Starting with the Pixel 3a, supported versions can use a physical SIM and eSIM as Dual SIM. Newer Pixel phones may support more eSIM combinations. Which two lines can be active at the same time depends on the model, software, and carrier.

For travel, you normally use your own number for calls and SMS and HolySim for mobile data. Turn off automatic data switching if you do not want the Pixel to use your regular carrier when coverage is weak.

In the SIM settings, always confirm separately which line handles calls, messages, and mobile data before enabling roaming.

Carrier locks and carrier versions

A Pixel from the Google Store is generally intended to work with different carriers. A device purchased directly from a carrier may still be locked or subject to different conditions.

Do not test this by deleting an existing profile. Ask the original carrier whether the phone is unlocked and check that Add SIM remains available.

Install HolySim on Pixel

On a compatible device, add the profile through Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Add SIM > Set up an eSIM. Use stable Wi-Fi and scan the QR code from a second screen.

Then follow how to install an eSIM on Google Pixel to select the data line, configure roaming, and test the connection. Do not delete the eSIM if activation takes longer than expected.
