What does roaming in Turkey cost? KPN, Odido, Vodafone

What roaming in Turkey costs depends almost entirely on your provider. Vodafone customers usually use their own bundle there for free, Odido customers buy a pass from €3, and at hollandsnieuwe internet costs €4 per loose megabyte. Turkey is outside the statutory EU roaming zone, so the home tariff is never a right there; it is each provider's own choice.

Short answer: first check whether your plan already covers Turkey (Vodafone Zone 1, Odido Buitenland Plus, KPN SuperUnlimited+). If not, a provider pass or a Turkey eSIM from €3.99 is almost always cheaper than pay-per-unit usage.

The amounts below apply to current consumer plans and were checked on August 31, 2026. Older contract versions may differ; your provider's app remains decisive.

Is Turkey covered by EU roaming?

No. The EU rules for roaming at the home tariff apply in the EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and since 2026 also Moldova and Ukraine. Turkey does not appear in the European Commission overview.

Yet Turkey may still be part of your plan, because providers maintain their own country lists alongside the law. Vodafone voluntarily counts Turkey in its EU zone, Odido includes it in Buitenland Plus for selected Unlimited plans, and KPN gives selected plans an outside-EU allowance. That benefit can also disappear with a contract change; so check your own version, not just the brand name.

What does roaming in Turkey cost with KPN?

KPN sells data-only international bundles of 31 days for Turkey, arranged through MijnKPN: 15 GB for €24.99 and 25 GB as the larger variant (€29.99 in the country finder of July 2026; KPN's tariff sheet also mentions €34.99, so check the current amount in MijnKPN before buying). The bundles contain no call minutes or texts.

If you have SuperUnlimited+, the current plan includes 25 GB per month for selected destinations outside the EU, Turkey among them. Without a bundle, mobile internet costs €2.50 per MB; KPN then blocks internet at €60.50 and again at €121 per month through its cost protection. Calling and texting fall outside that data block.

What does roaming in Turkey cost with Odido?

Turkey is Zone 2 at Odido. For data you buy an Internet Op Reis pass, and the Turkish amounts are relatively generous: XS 1 GB for €3 (24 hours), S 3 GB for €7.50 (3 days), M 9 GB for €15 (10 days), and XL 27 GB for €30 (30 days). The XL pass can be bought before departure, but starts immediately at purchase; so do not buy it too early.

With Unlimited plans that include Buitenland Plus, Turkey is already in the bundle, with tens of GBs up to 100 GB depending on your plan; check your own contract in the Odido App. Small pay-per-unit usage is capped for current Hello plans at €0.04 per MB with a maximum of €10 for 250 MB per billing month.

What does roaming in Turkey cost with Vodafone?

Vodafone counts Turkey in Zone 1: EU in its current consumer tariff overview. On its own Turkey page, Vodafone says it literally: you use your bundle in Turkey as you do in the Netherlands, without extra costs. The fair-use conditions for Europe then also apply in Turkey.

For most Vodafone customers, roaming in Turkey is therefore not a cost item. The caveat: this is a provider choice, not an EU right, and applies per contract version. Before departure, check whether your plan falls under the current Zone 1 country list, especially with an older contract.

hollandsnieuwe, Simyo, Youfone, and Lebara

At hollandsnieuwe, Turkey falls in the world zone and no bundle exists: internet costs €4.00 per MB, calling €2.00 per minute, receiving calls €1.00 per minute, and a text €0.50, straight from your credit (tariff conditions of July 21, 2026). An hour of maps and messages quickly runs into tens of euros.

Most budget brands publish no Turkey bundles either. Simyo charges loose per-megabyte rates, Youfone switches data off by default outside the EU, and Lebara is among the most expensive per unit. For all these brands the same advice applies: leave data roaming off and arrange data in advance another way.

The €60.50 cost cap is a safety net, not a bundle

Worldwide, a data cost cap of €50 excluding VAT applies, in the Netherlands about €60.50 including, with a warning at 80 percent. After that, mobile internet locks until you deliberately continue. KPN and hollandsnieuwe explicitly name this cap in their own conditions.

Do not lean on it. The cap covers data only (calling and texting do not count), provider passes fall outside it, and it only works if the visited network reports usage in real time. It is the airbag, not the brake.

Provider pass or travel eSIM: the worked example

For two weeks in Turkey, the routes look like this. Vodafone customers need to buy nothing as long as their own bundle suffices. Odido customers take the M pass (9 GB, €15) or XL pass (27 GB, €30). KPN customers compare the 15 GB Turkey bundle at €24.99 with a separate eSIM. At hollandsnieuwe and the budget brands, pay-per-unit usage is not a serious option.

A Turkey eSIM costs from €7.99 for 5 GB to €28.99 for 50 GB with 30 days of validity, and there is a 50 GB plan with 180 days of validity for €31.99. The eSIM wins mainly with lots of data, a longer trip, or when you want to keep costs separate from your Dutch plan; your regular SIM stays reachable for calls and text codes.
