Troubleshooting
eSIM missing after a reset: restore the profile safely
Is your eSIM missing from SIM management after a network or factory reset? First identify what was reset and request reactivation if necessary.
In this guide
Do not immediately scan the old QR code again. First check whether the profile is only disabled or has actually been erased, and identify which type of reset you performed. After deletion, HolySim may need to confirm whether reinstallation is possible.
HolySim advice: write down the exact reset option you selected.Reset Network SettingsandErase All Content and Settingshave very different consequences.
Look in three places
Open SIM management and check every line, including disabled profiles. Then look in the general device information to see whether an EID is still present. An EID proves that the eSIM hardware exists, not that your travel profile is still installed.
Finally, check whether the line appears under another name. After restoration, a label such as Vacation may have changed to the carrier name or a generic designation. Do not immediately enable an unknown line for data; first compare its identification with your order.
If the profile is present but does not work, use the general guide why your eSIM is not working. Reinstallation is not necessary.
Which reset did you perform?
A restart erases nothing. The phone simply turns off and on.
Resetting Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or mobile network settings restores connection settings. The eSIM profile should not disappear on every device, but manual APNs, network choices, Wi-Fi passwords, and VPN settings can be erased.
A factory reset erases personal data and, depending on the device and selected option, may also delete eSIM profiles. Under Erase All Content and Settings, Apple explicitly lets you choose whether to keep or delete the eSIM. Google warns that a factory reset erases all data from the phone; the exact Android eSIM choice differs by manufacturer.
A remote reset or reset through repair software may work differently again. Record the method and device.
After a network reset, check the APN first
Is the eSIM still visible, but you only have no internet? Then the profile has not disappeared. The reset may have removed the manual APN.
Compare the APN with your HolySim instructions, select the eSIM again as the mobile data line, and enable data roaming. Restore only the exact values from your plan instructions.
A manually selected network may also return to automatic after a reset. This is usually the correct starting point. Select a partner manually only when the installation instructions name one.
After a factory reset on iPhone
If you selected Keep eSIM while erasing, look under Settings > Cellular. If the line does not appear immediately, connect to Wi-Fi, complete every setup step, and restart.
If you selected Delete eSIM, the profile has been erased. Apple states that in this case, you must contact the carrier to reactivate the cellular plan. An iCloud backup does not guarantee that a deleted eSIM profile will return like app data.
Try the old QR code again only if HolySim confirms that it is still valid. A code already used message after deletion is entirely possible.
After a factory reset on Android
Android manufacturers use different reset menus and options for downloaded SIMs. Complete the phone setup, connect to Wi-Fi, and open SIM management. Do not search only for the old profile name.
If the profile is missing, collect the full model code, Android version, and reset method. Then contact HolySim. Samsung explains that deleting an eSIM plan on the phone is not the same as ending the plan with the carrier. The plan may therefore still exist while the downloaded profile is gone.
Do not install an eSIM from another order as a test. This only makes the profile list more confusing.
Why a backup is not enough
Photos, contacts, and apps may return from a cloud backup. An eSIM contains secured carrier data and is managed separately. The carrier may need to authorize a new download even when your order and remaining data still exist.
Before a reset, save:
- the order number;
- the name of the eSIM profile;
- the installation instructions and APN;
- the EID and IMEI;
- confirmation of remaining data and validity;
- support contact details.
Keep the QR code secure, but do not assume it can be reused without limit.
Reinstall without making the same mistake twice
If HolySim confirms that you may reinstall, use stable Wi-Fi and the assigned code or manual details. First check that no partial profile remains in SIM management.
If a code is invalid or already used, record the exact message and contact support. If the installation button is missing, check device compatibility, sales region, and carrier lock before trying again.
After successful installation, select the eSIM for mobile data, enable roaming on that line, and restore the APN if needed. Test without Wi-Fi.
Prevent this during the next reset
Read every reset screen in full. Choose to keep the eSIM if you will continue using the phone and the operating system offers that option. Delete the profile when selling or transferring the device, but arrange the transition with the carrier first.
Take screenshots of SIM management and the APN before resetting settings. Do not store your activation details in a public cloud folder or shared photo album.
Sources and editorial review
The differences between resetting network settings and performing a factory erase were checked with Apple, Google, and Samsung. Android behavior varies by manufacturer, software version, and reset method. Only HolySim can confirm whether a deleted profile can be reissued for your order. Last editorial review: July 15, 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Does a network reset delete my eSIM?
That is not its intended purpose on many devices, but network and APN settings may disappear. Check SIM management before reinstalling.
Does my eSIM return from a cloud backup?
Do not rely on this. An eSIM profile is managed separately and securely by the device and carrier.
Can I reuse my old QR code?
Only if HolySim confirms that the code is still valid. Many codes are tied to a single download.
Is my data plan also gone if the profile is missing?
Not necessarily. The profile on your phone and the plan registration with the carrier are separate. Support can check the status.
What should I select under Erase All Content on iPhone?
Choose Keep eSIM if you will continue using the phone and plan yourself. Choose deletion when transferring the device, after arranging the consequences.
